PALM SPRINGS
SCOPE | Tucked within the storied community of Smoke Tree Ranch in Palm Springs, this 1930s ranch home was thoughtfully reimagined as a soulful desert retreat for Pasadena-based homeowners seeking a character-filled second residence. The project encompassed a complete remodel and a series of sensitive additions, carefully preserving the integrity of the original structure while expanding the home to better embrace its surrounding landscape.
The design vision—“California ranch meets desert cottage”—guided every decision. Original architectural elements were maintained and honored, while new interventions introduced warmth, functionality, and a sense of quiet evolution. The existing living room was refreshed, and a new great room and dining area were added to create an easy, connected flow for gathering. The kitchen, bedrooms, and baths were fully redesigned, layering comfort with craftsmanship.
Custom millwork anchors the interiors, from tailored built-ins and detailed paneling to bespoke vanities and cabinetry. Bathrooms were reimagined with rich natural stones and layered tilework, adding depth and tactile beauty. Throughout, updated furnishings, textiles, lighting, and decorative details contribute to a collected, lived-in feel.
Inspired by Smoke Tree Ranch’s 1930s roots, vintage fruit crate graphics, and the surrounding desert flora and fauna, the palette leans into warm neutrals with subtle pattern and texture. Guest rooms introduce moments of color, echoing the desert landscape beyond the walls.
The result is a cozy, historically resonant home—one that feels both grounded in its past and perfectly attuned to desert living today.
